Day #30

5 x 7 oil on linen canvas panel

This painting is a special vacation memory.  These are my fabulous art friends on holiday in Sorrento on a wet rainy day. I was drawn to their colorful umbrellas and the reflections on the slick city streets. Good times...

Thank you faithful friends for following me on my challenge this month! Day #30 of 30!  Yeah!

It has truly been a rewarding experience for me. I am  excited to welcome some new followers due to this social networking I am trying to master.  It comes so easy to our young folks, but can be a challenge for my generation.

Tomorrow I will be posting a collage of the paintings I have created this month.  Then I will be giving you a break from daily emails, as I return to posting several paintings a month.

Day #29

5 x 7 oil on linen canvas panel   Sold

These beautiful birds are a welcome spot of color in the wintertime.  I enjoy watching them come to feed near our screened porch at Lake Martin.

I have always loved these birds.  When I was growing up my aunt and I made felt redbirds for our Christmas trees.  She was a master quilter, as well, and I was fascinated with her selection of fabrics and patterns.

Day #28

                                                  16 x 20 oil on canvas

This is a spot for good times on Lake Martin.  Some think of it as Chimney Rock, though it is actually Acapulco Rock, so named because the brave jump off of it for thrills and excitement!  On most summer weekends a crowd gathers to socialize and watching the daring.

I missed posting one day this week because this painting took several days to complete.  I painted an underpainting first to establish my values.  It will be part of a new show beginning February 12 at Stonehenge Gallery in Montgomery titled Alabama; Picture Perfect.  For more information go to www.stonehengeinc.com.

Day #27

                                                   5 x 7 oil on linen panel

I wanted to paint one more painting of the beautiful aspens.  This time I used a different color palette. Their coloration varies so much at different times of the day and on an overcast day versus one with sunshine.

Day #26

                                               5 x 7 oil on linen panel

This is the sixth painting in my boat series.  I loved the shape of this boat and the pop of red on the bow.  If interested in purchasing, please email me at bkc681@charter.net.

Day #23

                                                 6 x 12 oil on canvas        Sold

A friend with a green thumb gave me some narcissus bulbs for Christmas.  I love watching these sweet smelling flowers grow and bloom in January.  They became the subjects for this painting challenge.  I used a black background to make the image pop.  It is almost becomes a  graphic design.

                                                 5 x 7 oil on linen panel

This is painting is from a photograph a friend of mine took on her trip to Melbourne, Florida last spring.   I enjoy painting vacation memories.  I appreciate her allowing me to paint it!

Day #19

6 x 6 oil on linen canvas

I know it is a little late for the gourd season, but I loved the shape of this one.  Its curves created nice negative spaces in the composition design.  My husband named it "Curly".

Day #17

      5 x 7 oil on canvas panel

I like the juxtaposition of red and turquoise on this boat, also the reflection of the bumpers in the water.  This is the third painting in my boat series.

Day #15

5 x 7 oil on linen canvas panel      Sold

The colors of aspens in the fall have eternally drawn artists to paint them.  I was fortunate to visit Santa Fee last year with my sisters to see them.

Today is "hump" day, halfway through the challenge.  It is beginning to feel more natural to begin each day painting in my studio.  Thank you for staying with me on this journey, and especially for your encouraging remarks.

Don't forget to help me with naming.  I want to name all of my "children" before sending them off to new homes!  Please email me @ blc681@charter.net if interested in purchasing.

Day #13

17 x 20 framed, oil on linen canvas

These children are having fun at the end of the day running on the boardwalk on their spring vacation in Florida.  The challenge for this painting was to capture the orange glow of the setting sun.  This painting has been in progress for a while, so I am happy to finish it today.

Day #11

                                      6 x 6 oil on linen canvas

This cutie pie is soaking up the sunshine on the dock at the lake.  There are alot of textures in this painting:  the water, the dock, and his fur with fun shaggy ears.

Day # 10

                                                 5 x 5  oil on board

I took the weekend off from my painting challenge.  I went to Atlanta to visit my children and grandchildren.  My boss (me!) allows for some slackin' to have fun family time.  I did get seven sketches done in preparation for this coming week.  Now...time to get back in the saddle.

This colorful apple was just for fun.  I used a pallette knife on the apple and create a textured surface on the foreground by cross hatching with my brush .   Oil paints  lend themselves to so many different techniques due to their creamy consistency and slower drying time.

Available for purchase:   Please email me at bkc681@charter.net to order.

Day #7

12 x 12 oil on natural linen canvas, gallery wrapped

These beautiful blue satin shoes were worn by a bride on her wedding day. Fancy shoes for a very special occasion!   I was drawn to their reflection in the mirrored floor tile.

If you are interested in purchasing, please email me at bkc681@charter.net.

Day #6

                                                                   5 x 7 oil on board

I utilized a technique called pointillism to achieve the shimmer in the water on this painting.  It is a neo-impressionist principle in which small dots of pure color are juxtaposed side by side to achieve the desired colors.  The viewer's eye then does the blending.

Day #5

                                                               5 x 5 oil on board

I guess that no art challenge would be complete without painting a chicken!  This biddy resides in Miss Cindy's coop in Oxford, Mississippi.  Just down the lane...my grandchildren love to walk down for visits to her farm.

If interested in purchasing:  Please email me at bkc681@charter.net .

Day #3

5 x 7 oil on gallery wrapped canvas

This little fishing boat was bobbing in the harbor on the morning we visited the Isle of Capri.  I liked the shape of the hull on this old wooden boat.

Day #2

5 x 7   oil on canvas panel   Sold

Ball jars never go out of style.  They have offered service and fascination for generations.  Though mainly for canning and preserving, we Southerners love to drink our sweet tea from them in the summertime.  I enjoyed painting the contrast of the green glass and earthy tin top.

Day #1

5 x 7 oil on gallery wrapped canvas

On my recent trip to Italy I was fortunate to see some wonderful vintage boats in the harbors and in the artwork of masters.  This is #1 of (hopefully)  30 works I will start painting this month.

I am excited to be on this journey with artists from around the world.. I am a little late getting started, but as Leslie says there are no rules as long as we are painting!  If you are interested in purchasing any of the posts from this challenge, they will each be $95, plus $10 shipping.  Please  email your request to me at bkc681@charter.net.

I will be painting daily along with hundreds of talented artists.  You may check out Leslie Saeta's website, if you'd like to know more about this challenge: http://30paintingsin30days.weebly.com/

As a rule, I am a deliberate painter.  I paint in layers letting the canvas dry in between sessions.  For this challenge, I will need to finish the painting in one sitting.  So I will be forced to paint more intuitively, having less time for details.  I also want to try some new techniques such as pointillism and painting with a palette knife.

My husband photographs and helps name my paintings.  However, I have never asked him to name 30 paintings before!    Please help us name these small works by entering your suggestions in the comment box below.
