A Walk in the Woods

Fathers and sons spend some of their happiest hours exploring the woods, especially with a red bucket in hand to collect treasures!

Game Day Oil Paintings

What a fun time we had last weekend taking photos for reference in future paintings.  I'm preparing for a show, All Orange and Blue, at The Flower Store in Auburn on October 24.  It was a great family team effort.  Lauren was my photostylist, Butch my photographer, Lee, Vivian, and Davis my models.  I am a lucky artist!

Renewal

This is a commissioned piece based on a photo taken by my niece's sister.  It reminded us that life is full of new beginnings.

Summer Group Show at Stonehenge Gallery

We enjoyed the cheese, wine and great art Thursday night at a reception for the summer show at:
Stonehenge Gallery, located at 1041 East Fairview Avenue, Montgomery, AL.  I hope you can stop by this month and see the new exhibit.  It will run until Friday, August 2.   I'm honored to be one of the artists represented here.   I'm shown above with gallery manager Richard Metzger.  He did a wonderful job putting the show together.  It features an exciting and eclectic group of artists.

Beach Buddies

It was a privilege to learn from Nancy Franke in her workshop on "The Essence of Children", this month at the Atlanta Artists Center.  She was bubbly, full of enthusiasm and encouragement.

" Giving up on our investment in a painting is the best way to improve," she said.  Allow yourselves freedom to experiment and let your creativity flow.  Don't get restricted by worrying about perfection.

Our goal was to show emotion, gesture, movement...not details.  We used bold strokes and big brushes.  I hope I can incorporate some of her concepts into my work.

Art is exciting!  Just when you think you've gotten it, along comes a new approach.

Practice Makes Perfect

My son, David, is an avid hunter.  He and Ronnie, his yellow Laborador Retriever, like to spend their leisure time in the Mississippi Dellta looking for ducks..  It is amazing to watch Ronnie fetch and swim doing what he loves to do!
This painting is one of four that I have for sale at Gallery 128 in Alexander City in their anniversary art show beginning with a reception on Monday night, April 22.  The show will run for six weeks from April 23 until June 6.  The address is 128 Calhoun Street.

Kowaliga

Indian chief, Kowaliga, has a special place in the legends of Lake Martin.  Hank Williams wrote a song about him! He is painted on a wonderful surface of rough cut cedar and hangs by a heavy rusted chain. This painting is on display and for sale this month at Gallery 128 in Alexander City.

River Fish

This is the second painting of my fish series.  Attaching the rippled tin to the frame was challenging for my husband.  The tin and rough cut cedar were perfect compliments to each other.
It is available at Lakeside Mercantile at Linda's Greenhouse at Walnut Hill  near Lake Martin.

Lake Bass

This is one of a series of fish paintings I am working on in preparation for my first solo show at Gallery 128 in Alexander City beginning March 4.  My husband salvaged the tin for me and crafted the frame from rough cut cedar. He did a great job.
I'm excited and honored to have this opportunity to exhibit my work.  More details to follow...
