This island is near the Kowaliga bridge at Childrens Harbor on Lake Martin. It barely escaped the devastating path of the tornados last April. After tireless efforts on the part of agencies and volunteers, the debris removal on nearby land is nearing completion. While landscaping efforts are underway, the property will not return to its previous lush forest canopy for many many years. The campground will always be a special place for terminally ill children and families, church goers, concerts lovers, brides and grooms.
I am returning home today from the Sarah Carlisle Towery Art Colony at Childrens Harbor. It is a very special week where artists from across the Southeast gather and learn each year. We are well taken care of, so that our sole focus is painting (and socializing)... no interruptions from the things that consume our time and energy in real life! Colley Whisson was our instructor. He's a wonderful Australian artist, full of energy and talent!

Rudi
I couldn't paint any more pet portraits without letting you meet my best friend, Rudi. He likes to sit in a chair by the window in my studio and watch the squirrels play outside while I paint. My husband thinks Rudi might be a bit spoiled!
